5.5-6 week ultrasound - heartbeat question
Today was my first ultrasound with my RE. From LMP I’m exactly 6 weeks. From ovulation and when I thought I implanted, I’m closer to 5.5.
They have to confirm pregnancy before my OB can take over. The nurse did a transvaginal ultrasound finding a gestational sac, yolk sac and the very beginnings of a fetal pole. The nurse felt she could see a small flicker but was not sure if it was my heart beat or the babies. She said I measured closer to 5.5 weeks. The PA, with less than great bedside manner, said that she was “cautiously optimistic” and that if by next week there wasn’t a heart beat, it would be a bad pregnancy. I scheduled my next ultrasound for next Monday.
This is my first pregnancy so hearing that was hard as I went in happy to see the two sacs and start of a fetal pole in my uterus ruling out any ectopic or implantation concerns. I’ve had no bleeding this entire pregnancy.
Maybe I’m wrong but I thought it’s not always possible to see a heartbeat yet before 6 weeks. What’s your take or experience?
