After 74 hours of labor and an emergency c-section our Little Dude has entered the world!

Co

I don’t even know where to start. My prelabor started on Friday 4/12 (37w6d) around 2pm. Little Dude was so active, actually I thought he was a little too active. Around 10 pm I thought my water broke but when I got out of bed and turned the light on I was shocked to see it was bright red blood. My husband and I rushed to labor and delivery, I was panicking the entire time because he had stopped moving after the bleed. Thankfully the bleed stopped on its own but we spent the night at L&D for monitoring. I was having regular contractions every 5 minutes but wasn’t dilated yet so they sent me home to labor at home around 6pm Saturday. I got some sleep, maybe 3 hours, and was woken up at midnight with really intense contractions coming every 3 minutes so back we went to L&D! By the time we got there I was in such intense pain I felt like I was going through and exorcism. They said because of the bleeding my contractions would be intensified. I am allergic to narcotics so they were unable to give me anything for the pain. I still wasn’t dilated but they were willing to give me the epidural to help with pain (no fentanyl, just bupivicaine epidural). At 10am I still wasn’t dilated and the dr at L&D told me I wasn’t in labor and that I needed to go home. My nurses were amazing and advocated for me because of the amount of pain I was in. I suggested turning the epidural off so I could walk and see if I made any progress and the dr was willing to let me try that. I walked for 2 hours through contractions every 2 minutes. I still wasn’t dilated ☹️ BUT... my water broke!!!! So they had to keep me!! 😅 I finally dilated to 1/2cm (6pm ish Sunday) and they put a cook balloon catheter in (and restarted my epidural) my epidural was no longer working on my left side but anesthesia kept coming in to top me off and give me more meds. The balloon catheter fell out after only 3 hours and I was dilated to a 4!!! My cervix just needed a little help. I continued to make slow progress throughout the night but counts sleep because the epidural wasn’t working well enough. By Monday morning the anesthesia team came up with a better pain management plan and I was finally able to sleep between switching positions. By Monday morning around 10am I was 7cm!!! Unfortunately I only made it to 8cm and stayed there for a few hours. Little Dude started passing meconium and his heart rate was very erratic. So unfortunately after all of that I had an emergency -section 😭😭😭 but it was best for Little Dude. He was born at 3:38pm on 4/15/19 38+2days 6lb9oz 20.5”. My epidural wore off as they were closing me up and I vaguely remember telling my husband I wanted to die. I can’t even describe the pain and I was just so tired from no sleep or food since Friday. The anesthesia team convinced me to try fentanyl now that baby was born so I could get some pain relief. We assembled the code blue team in the room Incase I went into anaphylactic shock (as I previously did with morphine). Thank GOD I didn’t have a reaction!!!! They loaded me up with pain meds and Little Dude spent the night in the nursery so I could rest. I am finally now able to enjoy being a mom and he has such a great latch and is nursing so well!! Welcome to the world Ewan Michael Kirkpatrick!
