Strep Positive - changes labor how?

Question

Okay, just found out i was positive and forgot to really ask any questions. I googled and it basically said go to hospital with enough time to get 4 hours of antibiotics.

So did you do go in to the hospital sooner then the traditional contractions 5 minutes apart point then?

FTM So not sure what all this will effect labor wise.

Any other comments that are helpful will be apreciated.

If your doctor recommends to go when you are 5 mins apart, then go then. Being gbs positive will not affect that. Most first time moms have a long enough labor that it's not an issue.

I tested positive too and this is our first. My OB said since we don't know how my body will treat labor (slow/fast), he wants me at the hospital in early labor. He wants to get at least two doses of antibiotics in me (every four hours) before delivery. Since he has no clue if it will be 20hrs of labor or 2hrs, I am expected to go in at the first signs. If I don't get both doses of antibiotics, he said it would mean more time at the hospital with meds for our little girl being monitored by our pediatrician. When I asked our pediatrician about it, he told me the same thing as my OB, the sooner I get to the hospital and the more meds I get, the sooner our baby girl will get to go home. While she may be perfectly healthy, they won't know until she is here and we don't want to chance it. Hope that helps!!

I tested positive with my first. Made it to the hospital and baby was delivered in 40 minutes. No time for the antibiotics and baby was totally fine.

My doc tested me for number 2 and said even if I'm positive (which I wasn't), for 2nd time labor there may not be enough time for antibiotics and she didn't see to think it was an issue.

You can always call and ask your doctor or ask at the next appointment :)

You don't have to go to hospital earlier unless your doctor says to , they won't sweep your membranes and they say even if you don't get the full 4 hours of antibiotics there is still very low chance of infecting baby is pretty common just go over it with Dr :)
