Anyone ever heard of burglars marking door frames before breaking in?

Last night my hubby and I heard a noise outside and today we noticed marks around our back door frame.... curious to see if anyone has ever had this happen and their house was broken into???

Other things to look out for: random strangers who don't live in your neighborhood waking by your house trying to make small talk with you, also trying to gain trust with pets if you have any amd strangers driving slowly by your house during different times of day. 
They also trying to figure out what time nobody is usually home. So if toy and your husband is both working during the day they're going to know when you leave and what time you get back. Markings are very suspicious. Get cameras and be on the lookout

I’ve heard of this, people mark the houses that seem to have the most valuable stuff to steal. Definitely keep your eyes open and doors locked.

Get cameras and protect yourselves. I've heard of it and witnessed it when someone broke into my mother's house a few days after someone marked their back door. Good thing they had a big bad ass dog at the time.
