Hiatal Hernia?

I had an endoscopy done today and they said I have a hiatal hernia and that I have to come back in next week to talk about treatment options and I’m a little nervous about the whole thing. I’ve never heard of this before and I have no idea how it could have happened. Does anyone know anything about these at all? Any information would help ease my mind.

I've had one for about 8 years now. I honestly havent even taken the medication (omeprazole) for years. Biggest issues were severe painful heartburn (like swallowing fiber glass) but I changed my diet by cutting soda and greasy acidic foods. I rarely have issues and even recently had an endoscopy and while I still have the hernia the doctor said everything looks good. It was definitely scary to hear at first but if you take care of what you eat it's easy to maintain.
