What age is too young?

What age is appropriate to leave your kids alone for a little while? 
My oldest is 12 then 11 and 8. I have a friend who’s son is 12 and daughters 8 and she leaves him alone or both of them for a while.

I think it depends on the child honestly. I would say 12 is just fine.

My niece is 10, and my sister is starting to leave her alone with my 4 year old nephew for short periods of time now. Like quick trips to the grocery store, nothing exceeding 20-30 minutes. Just to get her in the feel of it, and so they can assess how she does. I agree it depends on the kid. My sister was alone with me plenty when she was 9 and I was 5

My brother was 8 and I was 10 when we were left alone at home for up to an hour. I remember we felt very responsible and excited that we were being trusted. For a child on their own the youngest I would allow for them to be on their own would be a 9 year old for maybe up to 30 mins

Totally depends on the child. My older son was capable of being left at home, for short periods, by 10 years. My younger son doesn’t like being home without an adult, and he’s almost 13.

My parents left my younger brother and I at home starting when we were 4 and 6 for a few hrs n then the next yr maybe 6 hrs if they went to a concert n dinner. We always have been pretty mature for our ages though.
