Do people ever open gifts AT the wedding?

I’m not really big on sending thank you cards and honestly I’d probably forget to anyway. So could I just open the gifts AT the wedding during the mingling time? Or is that too weird? Especially since a lot of family live far away, I just feel saying thank you in person is more meaningful and will also be cheaper.

I would definitely send thank you cards. At my bridal shower and baby shower I opened gifts in front of everyone, said thank you and then sent out thank you cards shortly after the event. It is the least you could do when people are spending their time and money on you to attend your wedding.

Don't be a jerk just send out thank you cards. People took time out of their lives to come support you and spent money on your special day to get you a gift so just send a note.

Nah the older generation will still expect thank you cards anyways and I’ve never been to a wedding that does that. Unless you’re doing a super small wedding of like 40 or less people maybe. Also you’re usually too busy mingling etc to have time to open gifts. You can get super cheap thank you cards, most expensive part is the damn stamps.

It may seem better.. but I think it's tacky to do it at the wedding.. if people are coming from far away they'd rather spend time with you instead of you opening all your gifts.. and honestly people love thank you notes! To save time on cards, print a generic one and then personalize with their name on top and your married signature on the bottom.

Do not open em at the reception or wedding. Set a damn reminder on your phone to write thank you cards, they don't take ling at all. Break it up over a weeks time if you have had like a ton of gifts.

if they are coming from far away the least you can do is send out a thank you card. 
"thank you for coming to our special day and for the gift , love....." 
it's not that hard do them now in your free time so after the wedding you can just send them out.

I tell people in advance I don't do thank you cards. I just call or say thank you in person. I don't have the extra time or money for that.
