Paragard or Mirena?

Hi friends! I’m 22 & have never been on birth control but really want to. My periods are pretty regular and I’m terrified of all the bc hormone horror stories so I was wondering what your experiences were with mirena or Paragard?

If you have a light or medium period, try ParaGard. If you have a heavy period, try mirena. I only say so because the copper iud will make your periods heavier and longer for anywhere between 6 months and the entirety of using the iud. Mirena will lighten your periods or make them go away completely. I have Liletta (same dosage as mirena) and my periods are even lighter than they were on the pill. There’s random cramping and spotting with both iuds, but side effects all depend on how well your body reacts to hormones. Only way to find out is to try. Talk with your doctor.
