Ultrasound no embryo... anyone else?

Had an ultrasound today, according to my last period I am 6 weeks 5 days. They were able to see a gestational sac and the yolk sac but no baby. Has anyone else had this and gone on to see the baby in future scans? I am kinda worried. They scheduled me for another in 11 days. But that seems so far away!!! I am wondering if I am really only 5 weeks? Because you don’t get pregnant on them day of your period it’s usually 12 days later... maybe the scan was just too early?

It is recommit have the first scan around 8 weeks for this very reason. Don’t stress too much and yes, 11 days feels like a year when you need to wait for check ups

The weeks include the time before ovulation. But if you ovulated late you could be under 6 weeks.

My obgyn will not do an ultrasound until 8 weeks because of situations like this. You are so early in the pregnancy at the 6 week mark that it can be hard to see an embryo she said and cause unnecessary anxiety. I would try not to worry. If they don’t see anything at 8 weeks then that would be more problematic. At 8 weeks they typically can see the tiny embryo and the flicker of a heart beat.

There’s always an additional 2 weeks added on to gestational age so that’s accounted for (i.e., every pregnancy that’s considered to be 6 weeks actually started more like 4 weeks ago), but it’s still possible that you ovulated later in your cycle than what the standard calculation assumes, especially if you have irregular or longer than average cycles. Early ultrasounds are often more stressful than they are reassuring, hopefully your next will be better.
