succenturiate placenta?

El

I’m 35 weeks with my second. Just last week I had another ultrasound and the tech found an extra lobe on my placenta. With my three year old, I delivered spontaneously at 37+2, and had terrible pp hemorrhaging 3 weeks later due to retained placenta. Now that we found the lobe in this pregnancy, we’re thinking I could have had it then as well, and it just went undetected. Has anyone had this before? Recurring in more than one pregnancy? I can’t find anything about risk factors, except maybe advanced maternal age. I was 30 with my daughter, and I’m 33 now.

My midwife had already indicated on my chart that I must have a manual sweep in the delivery room to avoid the whole ordeal we went through last time. I had my daughter without any pain meds, and that’s my goal this time as well, but we will have something on deck for right after. She said it wouldn’t affect breastfeeding.

Just wondering if anyone has ever experienced any of this before. I’m posting here because it’s was a really awful ordeal postpartum; I had another hospital stay, blood transfusion, d&c, etc. made pp really scary and it’s my biggest worry this time around.
