The second the alcohol starts to effect your life negatively. If you drink one night a week, but the drink excessively every time and drive home drunk, it's a problem. If you put alcohol above the safety and well-being of yourself, or others, you have a problem. If you drink once a week, but you're drinking at work, that's a problem because you're risking your income for alcohol. But if you drink every night, you don't get drunk, just have maybe a glass a night, maybe get drunk one night a week, don't drive drunk, do it on your own time etc, that's not a problem

I think I have an unpopular opinion, but I think alcohol dependency is a greater issue than most people see. All those “mom needs wine” jokes are saddening. I don’t think alcohol dependency is funny. Do I think those people are full on alcoholics? No. And I don’t even think they get drunk, but alcohol dependency is still an issue and you didn’t ask, but I’d say the same with coffee. If you feel like you NEED a substance, then it’s unhealthy. My husband probably drinks a beer or two most nights. I keep an eye on how much he drinks because his family has a history of binge drinking. His alcohol tolerance is so high and that’s just not a good thing. His dad has faced health problems because of how much alcohol he can and has drank. I don’t think one or two a night is a bad thing, but how people frame it and think about it can be. Age is relevant, but since the drinking age is different everywhere, it’s hard to give a consistent answer. Of course younger people who are just starting to drink are testing things out and learning their limits. Binge drinking is common then. Probably because they possibly aren’t everyday drinkers so when they do drink, they drink to get wasted. That’s just an assumption though. I personally don’t drink alcohol. I did when I was in high school. I have a very low tolerance and it isn’t something enjoy. The taste is bad and I don’t enjoy puking which happens after I have two drinks, so I’m good.

It's more about behavior than just quantity. If someone cant go a day or several without drinking and saying they need a drink then it's a problem. Also depends how they are once they've been drinking, if they engage in risky behaviors like driving and get angry at others for telling them not to

The moment you depend on it. If you only drink one night per week but spend your whole week looking forward to it and feel like you need it then I’d consider it a problem.

I don’t believe there’s a line at a number of drinks or days that you drink. It’s the overall effect it has on your life.

1. I don't think the type of alcohol matters. Booze is booze lol 2. Drinking home alone isn't bad as long as your not doing it to get black out wasted. After a long day, I'll have a beer to myself to just be alone an decompress. I don't see an issue with it. 3. I don't think age matters, or whether or not your a parent. I'm a mom. Not a nun. If I wanna have a beer or two, that's my business and my life. If I wanna have a girls night and get white girl wasted. I'll do it. 4. When I was a chef and before kids was a thought me and my husband, together, after a long ass day in a 100+ degree kitchen, we would kill a 6 pack easy. Sometimes every night. We called down when we both became executive chefs. We had to run kitchens, didn't have time to really chill like we used to. To me personally I think it depends on the limit you drink. If your drinking all day, everyday, with the intent on being drunk or wasted. You got a problem. If you can't go somewhere without a drink. You may have a problem. That's just me though

I personally don't drink alcohol at all, but I'm still in college and I know college is "supposed" to be a time when you can party and have fun, but a lot of my friends get black out drunk Thursday-Saturday and I don't think that's healthy. A lot of the students here say they need to drink and I think it has a lot to do with not being mentally healthy so while I don't think that a certain number of drinks/nights of drinking necessarily can correlate to a drinking problem, I think why you're drinking is really important. If you're drinking because of stress, anxiety, anything to do with mental health, that isn't healthy and can lead to dependency because you're using drinking as a coping mechanism which isn't what it's for. And from there you'll see an affect in your life, your relationships, your work, and that's the sign most people see and think of when they think of signs of a drinking problem, but if see people drinking for unhealthy reasons, even if they're not dependent on it yet and it's not a problem in their life yet, I think it's important to talk to them about it and get them to see someone so it doesn't become a problem.

There isnt a set amount of drinks to be a problem. People have different limits. It's a problem when it starts impacting your life negatively, not because you had 3 or 10.

If you "need" that one drink a night then it's a problem.

I think its a problem when its used as a form of escapism, when it becomes a need, when it starts having a negative impact on your life or those around you, etc.
