Ideas needed!

So I want to name our baby boy to have my grandfather’s name in his in some way and my husband wants his grandfather’s name in it as they were both a huge influence in our lives. So the names are Eugene and John (which John is a family name on my side too so I love it) but hubby has an aunt who is named Eugenia who has been not involved in the family for almost her entire adult life because of some very poor choices she made. So Eugene isn’t really a popular pick on our name list. After being part of their family even I have come to have some negative connotations with the name.

Any ideas of variations of the name Eugene?
