How are epidurals?

Question

For my own curiosity, how is the overall epidural experience? How painful is it to get one? Can you still give a natural birth when getting one? Or does it have to be C section? Im not too familiar with them but im very curios as to how they work for everyone. I’d love to hear your experience and how the process is. Thanks!

No pain compared to contractions lol. You can still have a vaginal birth. If epidurals didn’t exist I wouldn’t be considering a second child.

Well, a “natural” birth means no medication, but yes you can have a VAGINAL birth with an epidural. I was induced and was in labor for 4 days before I got the epidural, I was in the most pain of my entire life and I couldn’t handle it any longer. The epidural was NOTHING compared to the contractions. The only part that hurt was the numbing shot and everything else was just pressure

Not painful at all. Yes you can still have a vaginal birth. With my first, I didn’t feel a thing. With my second, it just took the edge off. I still felt everything and knew when/had the urge to push

The hard part for me was trying to relax my back enough between the contractions. Other than that it was relatively painless. You can still have a vaginal birth with an epidural.

It basically was a super quick pin prick, I little tingle and then you’ll feel a word of relief once they get meds in! It truly was NoTHInG compared to contractions Imo

I honestly did not have a great epidural experience. I got poked extra because my catheter wasn’t threading. But let me tell you I will take that pain over and over again over the pain of my contractions.
I ended up getting another c section, but they gave me a stronger medicine through the catheter. My first c section I didn’t get an epidural just a spinal block

I got an epidural and the process, for me at least, was fast and painless. I felt so much more comfortable after getting it. I was able to give birth vaginally.

I’ve had 2(one with each kid). I gave birth vaginally both times. You don’t have to a c section unless it’s necessary. I didn’t think it hurt at all, you have to be still and having one at 8cm and 7cm I was more focused on not moving from the painful contractions than the pain of the needle.
