Alcohol & breastfeeding?

Question

Just curious what you other mamas have figured out... I’m so paranoid to drink and don’t know when it would be safe to breastfeed afterwards. I do supplement so if I drink he most definitely gets formula afterwards. The last time I drank which was the first time since being pregnant I had 3 shots and two hours later I came home and pumped and dumped 4oz, it broke my heart. Just curious if other mamas are drinking and what they are doing afterwards? TIA!

You don’t need to pump and dump unless you are in pain and just had to pump right after you drank. Like the minute after. The alcohol leaves your milk just as it leaves your blood. It doesn’t sit it your milk until you dump it. I hope that makes sense. 
Just wait until you don’t feel the affects of the alcohol any more. It’s not as dramatic as many people make it seem. If you just have a drink or two wile you are out and then you come home more than an hour after that, you would really be good. The trace amount there would be so small if there was anything left over. I read up a lot about this. When I have a drink I just wait a good wile before pumping again.

I drink beer and breastfeed. I follow the rule “safe to drive, safe to breastfeed”. If I had anything stronger I’ll feed him beforehand and enjoy it in moderation such as sharing it with someone or if it’s whiskey or something I’ll only have a half ounce to sip on for the taste. No getting drunk.

Also my lactation consultant told me to never pump a dump. She said split that pump up into multiple bottles and fill with other milk with no alcohol-if that makes sense. 
I have a glass or two of wine a couple days a week. I had a wedding the other day and had three glasses. I came home and pumped and split that bottle up into multiple bottles.

I’ve been having a beer or 4 oz pour of wine here and there and if in a couple hours I feel like I’d like another one, I do. I’ve never had more than 2 drinks in a day/night.
My husbands taking me on a vaca a few hours from home with our 7 week old (wish us luck) and I’m bringing some pumped breastmilk with us so I can indulge in some wine while we’re away. Happy Mother’s Day/4 year anniversary to us!

I dont know where I read it but I read in a cited medical journal that it depends on your weight and how much you drink but the average is that alcohol take 3-4 hours to leave your system if you have 2 glasses of wine or beer and liquor takes 6-7 hours to leave your system if you have 3-4 shots. If you are concerned, with my first I bought the milk testers from target and those were great, but this time I know from my experience with the tester strips that If I feel the affects of alcohol  at all or it hasn't at least been 2 hours, I'm not safe to feed the baby.

I had a Mike's Hard Lemonade tonight. just one. I just gave him a bottle of pumped milk, and I wont feed or pump for 2 hours.

I don’t drink very much, but I like a glass of wine sometimes or a mimosa at brunch. I only ever have one drink, but I usually go ahead and nurse her as long as I feel safe to drive.

I have a glass of wine every night and enf.  I nurse as much as i can late in afternoon and right before, sometimes i pump if i think there is any milk in there, slowly drink and eat dinner.  If she wants more i either have dad give her a pumped bottle or nurse as there is such a trace amount that passes.  Its fine.  But i wouldn’t if i drank heavier than this.

If you have a drink during or right after you're fine. The charges another posted is a good example. Just the other day I was at brewery another lady drank half her beer sndvtga nursed and continued drinking. Tk me it just reaffirmed what I dk and no one else mentioned or gave a look.
