Am I to old?

Question

I was with my dad and aunt yesterday and the subject of babies came up. I said i wanted to try again next year. She said at 35 I'm just to old and if I got pregnant there would be something wrong with the baby at my age. I was heartbroken. What are your thoughts?

I’m guessing your aunt got her medical degree from the University of General Hospital so she should probably keep her unqualified opinion to herself.  It’s true that it’s riskier the older we get.  Tons of women have healthy babies in their 30s and 40s.  Talk to your actual doctor and then do what’s right for you!  Good luck!!

Wow, what an insensitive thing to say. I just turned 35 last week and don't consider myself anywhere close to being too old to have a baby. I also had a heartbreaking early loss last week and don't think it had one ounce to do with my age, and my doctor agrees. It's not always the case, but I have found that women in my life who have been negative to me about having a baby over the age of 30 are those that can no longer have babies themselves and/or they never had children. Maybe misery loves company? Keep your head up and just take care of yourself.

Your aunt is an asshole, sorry. I know plenty of people who conceived naturally between 35-40. My mom had my brother at 39...hes annoy AF but fine otherwise.

My family was like this too 🤦🏻‍♀️I was 38 and conceived twins last year and I did lose that pregnancy. I’m now 39 and almost 16 weeks with a baby boy. Did all my NIPT and genetics stuff and he’s perfect. Learned so much and at my age the risks were not as high as I thought. I would have told your aunt to piss off after she shows you her medical degree in reproduction.

I’m 39 with my first baby so I would say no, you are not too old at 35. I have a lot of friends having healthy babies right now. If you can get pregnant then you will be fine!

Traditionally 35 and older is considered more high risk but plenty of us do it and have healthy children and healthy pregnancies. In fact I heard a statistic that one in five births is to mother's over 35 and that most are healthy in every way. But unfortunately it is true that the older we are the higher the risks. 
Making sure mum is in optimal health before conception goes a long way to reducing risks so things like eating well, exercising, taking prenatal vitamins and folic acid for a while before conception  ❤️ 
I was always told to be educated on the risks but to know that it is very much on an individual bases, not a one size fits all thing.

My cousin didn't have her first son till she was 35 and then her 2nd son 2 years after both born perfectly healthy. I'm pregnant now with my 2nd I'm 31 I'll be 32 at due date, def not too old yet, I personally wouldn't want anymore children after 40 though.
