Truly depends. If he’s a good husband and is invested in the pregnancy then he is a father. If he isn’t.. and isn’t even around when the baby is born.. he isn’t a father until he steps up and commits to being a father.

I chose when the baby is born because I think guys can’t comprehend the full human inside us, since they don’t feel it all day, and aren’t thinking about it constantly. So when the baby is out they can actually bond with it.

I could tell my husband became a father the moment I told him I was pregnant, just like I know I became a mother but I still didn't really feel like it. 
but when he heard the heartbeat for the first time you could tell it hit him hard. 
so it definitely became real when I gave birth for the two of us.

I think a man truly becomes a father when he shows commitment and dedication to the new family member, and for some that could happen before birth and gradually get better or unfortunately turn around for the worst. Some men are natural fathers, others have to really adjust and conform to fatherhood.

I chose from the moment you get a positive because, me and my partner managed to get pregnant twice, both times we miscarried! But he still calls them his babies, he is their father even though they were never born! He definitely knew he was a daddy as soon as he saw them two lines, and a heartbeat really verified it for him!

When I took our first positive test almost 7 years ago, he asked me what the second line meant. I told him it meant he was going to be a daddy. He literally jumped and yelled "I'm going to be a daddy?!" With the biggest smile. Our first child was not planned, I was 17 and he just turned 21. He was a father the moment he saw that test.

For me when the baby is born. Men have harder time wrapping their head around pregnancy and what a baby really means, besides during pregnancy they don’t really have any responsibility other than support. After birth is when it shows and they help take care of this child. I watched the switch flip the moment my son was born, my husband went from carefree childless to father in an instant. I’ll never forget the look on his face while he was holding that little boy.
