Partner with different views on raising up a baby?

Question

Would you be in a relationship where your partner has different views on how the both of you should raise your child? What would you consider ‘normal’ disagreements? How similar do you expect you and your partner views to be? What would make you rethink having a child? Do you think there are some differences that can be worked out or it would still be too confusing for the child to have their parents think differently?

I had a conversation about this with my spouse before we got married. We both agree to raise the child with Christian upbringing, teach right from wrong of course, and how to be a decent person. We're not going to raise the child Liberal or Conservative but teach the child to look at all sides. Those are the only views that really matter to me. I hate sports, but if my husband wanted to teach our kid all about them, I wouldn't care. If my husband and I had very different religious views or morals, then I would be concerned. If it's over major views, I would hold off on children until a compromise is reached.

I think it would be tough.  My husband and I don’t have kids yet but this subject was talked about while we were dating.  Having different parenting styles can cause problems in a marriage if not careful.  I saw this personally in someone close to me...trust me it wasn’t a good thing and it causes the child to choose sides, so one parent ends up being the bad guy.  If this is something you feel you can’t bend a little on I would suggest finding someone more closely in line with your way of doing things.

I agree. it can be quite tough. 
me and my partner had our first baby, (she is now 1 yr old) and the amount of arguments that having different views have caused, my god 😩. one time we almost split up and fight over who gets bubba. 😒 it's difficult when you both have different upbringings, and we're both pushy in a way. few of these fights are about discipline, sleep, religion, and a few more. 
it took a lot of communicating, growing out of immaturity, plenty of understanding and accepting. we made sure we're on the same page. depending on how strongly and passionately we felt about a particular subject, at times, just agree to disagree.

I couldn’t. When it comes to parenting you guys should be on the same page. That’s why I always liked to take the dating stage as a time to ask all of these questions.

Me and my boyfriend don’t have kids yet, but we both have had very different upbringings.... so I know we have very different ideas what’s normal....
But agree on the most important things I think....

I dont think you’ll find someone w the same exact views as you. Everyone is different and (for the most part- excluding abuse and all that) no one is right or wrong, we all just have different upbringings. The key is communication and compromise

No.  I’m sure other people can be more flexible but my views on raising my kids are set.
