Traumatic birth story

Kathryn • Mama x4 10.02.21💛

I’ve been waiting forever to tell my birth story while I read everyone else’s but I honestly never thought it would be like how it was. I had everything planned out but nothing went to plan.

It all started on April 4th I was 36 weeks, I lost my mucus plug at 7 in the morning and started having contractions that were about 10-15 minutes apart. I got to the hospital around 8:30 and was only 1 1/2 cm and 80% efface. They waited an hour to see if I would progress and I got to 3cm and 90% efface. Everything was looking great except that I started bleeding, a lot. I got admitted and the doctor told me to basically try as much as I could to induce myself (never do that!) so for about 14 hours off and on I was walking the halls, bouncing on the exercise balls, taking showers. Everything I could, my contractions were getting worse every time and I started bleeding more and more every time and I kept asking them if it was normal and they said it was. I’m a FTM so I believed them even when other people were telling me it wasn’t okay. Around 2:30 am on the 5th I was 5cm and got the epidural and took a nap. Everything was good before, he did have a few dips in his heart rate so they were watching that, around 3:30 I was woken up being told I might possibly have to get an emergency C-section. I had an oxygen mask on and getting a second ivy in and being pumped with all of the medicine. At 4:10 my doctor came in to check me and she said I could do a vaginal birth, I was 9cm and 100% efface so she broke my water. 5 minutes later the other doctor came in and rushed me into the ER. They were in such a rush that they barley got the drape up before cutting me open. They also didn’t turn up my epidural enough so I could feel a lot of it. My beautiful son was born on April 5th at 4:22am 4lbs 6oz and 17 3/4 inches long. I later found out that my placenta almost ruptured and we were about 10 minutes away from both dieing and he saved our lives 🙏🏻

He spent 3 weeks in the NICU because of feedings but he’s home and doin amazing. He’s not 6lbs 9oz, 19 1/2 inches long and is going crazy 💕 I was so happy to bring my baby Austin Rowan Heath Blair the way I did and I wouldn’t change it for anything 🥰
