First appointment at 8 weeks?

I made my first appointment with a midwife after finding out I'm pregnant... My appointment isn't until June 25th and I'll be 8 weeks by then.. My family physician retired so I haven't had one since so I went straight for a midwife. My friends thinks this is strange that my first appointment is so far away... Is this normal? Or should I be booking elsewhere lol?

Unless you are high riskx most doctors wont see you before 8-10 weeks. Some even later.
That's because you cant see anything before 8 weeks. So you get an ultrasound and see nothing but an empty sack(normal for that's stage) but now you are freaking out that u will be misscarying so you cry and stress yourself until the next appointment two weeks away..only to be told all looks fine and baby is developing on time.
To avoid this, most offices will not see you until at least 8 weeks, some even later.

I keep reading people saying you can't see anything early on, and that's just not always true. I had my first appointment at 6 weeks and I saw the baby and heard the heartbeat. This doesn't happen for everyone, but it certainly happens for many, as evidenced by all the early ultrasounds posts here. I had a similar experience, they told me my chosen doctor's first appointment wasn't until I was almost 13 weeks, so I saw a different doctor. I just wanted to see everything was okay asap and figured I could switch doctors afterwards, but I ended up loving my doctor and stuck with him. If you're impatient like me, you might try seeing another doctor just for the first visit or two just so you can check on the baby right away!

That's normal. My current midwife normally schedules first appointments for 8 weeks. My previous OB scheduled first appointments for 10-12 weeks.

With my first i didn't get a ultrasound to I was 7 weeks 5 days..she is now 5. This one we seen the baby at 7 weeks 5 days. I'm 12 weeks an we see the baby again next Thur on the 23. My first.ob appt was at 9 weeks 5 days we heard the heart on the Doppler an again at 10 weeks 5 days.

Right there with you. I won't get to confirm my pregnancy to get a referral to a OB until I'm 7 weeks, so I won't have my first prenatal visit til I'm probably 8-10 weeks along.
