Amnio experiences?

Leah

I’m a FTM and through genetic testing learned that I am a carrier for hemophilia (type b). Our baby boy has a 50/50 chance of inheriting it. It came as quite the shock as no one in my family has ever had symptoms of hemophilia but we want to be as prepared as possible. We’re opting in to do amniocentesis (the only way to know for sure if our baby inherited it) so we can ensure that we have a proper birth plan in place to accommodate a baby with a bleeding disorder (if he has it). There are lots of things we will need to do in advance including meeting with a pediatric hematologist, ensuring the hospital has clotting factor on hand for delivery, and educating ourselves as both my husband and I have no experience with this disorder. It is always a tough decision to make but we love our baby boy to the moon and feel amnio will help us be better prepared parents.

Can any Moms who have had this procedure done, share their experience?

Disclaimer: I’m not looking for advice on whether or not to get amnio done, we’ve educated ourselves fully on all the risks associated and feel as if our hospital and doctors are fully equipped to do the procedure safely. Just looking to hear experiences: did it hurt, how long did you rest, when did you get results, did you have any complications?
