Do you need Nipple pads

Question

Trying to avoid buying junk, so do you need nipple pads? Can you use those cotton make-up pads instead?

No you need the nursing pads they have a backing that prevent you from soaking through and you will if you dont use them.  And theres nothing worse than waking up soaking wet in sticky breastmilk

Definitely need them. There are reusable ones you can throw in the wash which work fine for small leaks but I needed the disposable ones for bigger leaks.

I didn’t leak much with my daughter but my nipples were so sensitive, I needed my bamboo reusable nipple pads for relief. All my bras hurt touching them.

I definitely needed them for the first few months! Now almost six months in I still wear them because I leak if he goes too long between feedings and I have to have them at night now that he sleeps longer stretches. When he sleeps through the night I still leak in the bed after I’ve filled the nursing pads.

I bought a whole case for my first and never leaked so I ended up giving them to my best friend who got pregnant after me. I saved one box for myself though...it will be interesting to see if I leak with this second baby!

I used reusable ones I only leaked slightly, but I also find them good at hiding my extremely pointy nipples as my nursing tops/ bra are fairly thin material.

Depends on your milk supply. I needed them my first two and not my others. Makeup pads won’t help AT ALL. Too small and thin. At night I let myself leak onto a T-shirt or cloth with no bra because it can cause clots and pain if you keep it stuck inside. Pads for leaving home though
