Is it wrong to use a name already in family?

Question

From being a child I have always loved the girls name Ellie. I don't now what I am having but I'm struggling to find a girls name. I quite like Millie but not as much as Ellie.
I have a second cousin called Ellie who is 11. She is my cousins daughter. I don't see her very often and we are not close. I don't think I've seen her in 3-4 years. Would it be wrong to use the name. I don't know if it would offend my cousin and his wife.

Totally fine. So many factors in your favour. She’s older, not directly connected to your immediate family (extended) and you haven’t seen her in years. 
I wouldn’t use it if it was your brother or sisters kid but that’s far enough distance that it’s totally fine

I would!!!! 🤷 Especially if they are not an everyday part of your life. 
If you love a name, you love a name. That's your kid for the rest of your life, and you want to feel happy everyday looking at her and the name you have given her. A name is a lot more than right now, or as she grows up even possibly living near her cousin who's 11. Her name is going to follow her for the rest of her life. Away from mom and dad when she graduates and into her own life as she makes her way on her own. 
I say name her Ellie. It's a beautiful name & who cares if someone else you know has it. ❤️

Personally I wouldn’t, I’m struggling with a boy name because so many cousins are boys even if I’m not close to them or see any of them I still say away

My SIL did this. They live states away anyway and rarely see our cousin who has a daughter with that name so it was never an issue and they’re 4 years apart. The girls have only even met once. It’s never been an issue. Now my SO has a cousin whom he sees somewhat regularly and they had used the name we were going to use and since the girls were going to be months apart we picked a new name. It depends on the situation IMO.

We named my first son Jacob. My husband has 2 cousins (different sides of his family) with kids Jacob. The one Jacob lives in Texas and is around 11. He thought it was super cool to have another Jacob.  The other one is like 20 years old. Neither cousin had any issue with our name choice but we arent terribly close with either. You could always ask if it would make you happier.

I would ask the person if they would mind. Some people are super sensitive with their child’s name. My hairdresser stopped doing another clients hair for using the same name she gave her son

I think it depends on the kind of people they are.  Do they get upset easily or do they not care? Personally I wouldn’t maybe unless they lived in a different state ?
