Experience with Owlet?

Question

Does anyone have experience with the Owlet baby monitor? Is it worth it? Does it work properly? Or should I just get a regular baby monitor?
Trying to figure out my baby list and I would love to hear your thoughts!

Love the Owlet! I couldn’t imagine life without it. My daughter is 17 months and I seriously don’t know what I’m going to do once she outgrows it next month! We only had 3 false alarms in the 17 months we’ve been using it, and 2 of those 3 times were while she was eating. The price is a little steep but you won’t regret it. Also, the Owlet Care historical data app (tracks baby’s sleep, oxygen, heart rate) they used to charge 7 bucks a month for and now it’s free so there’s a plus!
The only tip I would say is try not to buy it until you plan on using it. There is a one year warranty on it and it starts from the purchase date not usage date. We got ours as a gift several months before our daughter was born so once we had an issue with it (around 4.5 months of usage) we were already halfway through the warranty period. The replacement sensors are very pricy (120ish?) but Owlet staff are very responsive replacing parts. We had to replace the sensor twice in the 17 months and the base station cable once. All items were covered by the warranty so we weren’t out of pocket. I plan on getting a new one for my next baby and using this old one as a backup if we need replacement parts.

As a neonatal nurse and a FTM that has had a petty hard time getting to this point. I’m trying not to over medicalise having a baby.  I can see why people would buy one I’m staying away. I got one of these instead it detects the movement of breathing. In the unit I work at the breathing monitor alway goes off before the saturation’s drop in a real apnoea. The saturation can be all over the shop it the baby is moving about.

We got one for our baby. I know several friends who all mentioned having some sort of breathing scare that the owlet sock helped get them through. I think avoiding even one of those after 4 losses and the two years we tried is 100% worth it. We got our off ebay, believe it or not, and only spent $160. It was the newest version and brand new in the box. No regrets.

I love love love love the Owlet!! I can not recommend it enough. The peace of mind it gave me was priceless and I can’t imagine those newborn days without it. It’s one of the best things your could get for you and baby!

I posted something in the parenting group & a lot of people commented that doctors don’t recommend the owlet as it “continuously gives false alarms” & some of them have even burned their baby’s foot. 😳 I was interested in the owlet, but now I’ll have to do more research.

We love our Owlet!👍🏾 We have never had any issues with ours, however, I have read about some parents experiencing false alarms. I highly recommend it! We also use a video monitor as well!👌🏾

I love the owlet, it gives us such peace of mind (especially now baby is a bit older and likes to sleep on his tummy which otherwise would leave me a nervous wreck).  We’ve been using it for around 4.5 months and have never had a false alarm or any other issues.  We do still have an audio/video monitor as well though as the owlet won’t alert you when baby wakes up. I’m sure lots of babies are fairy vocal about this but ours isn’t!

I bought mine early on in pregnancy, my daughter ended up in the NICU due to placenta abruption and had breathing issues. I debated while we were in the hospital if I was going to end up using it. We decided to and I’m glad. I’m not worried about aids as much as I am about aspiration since I have a projectile vomiting Reflux baby who tends to choke a lot. So far I haven’t had any issue with false alarms. She also had a severe tongue and lip tie and sometimes she would forget to breathe during night feedings which would alert us. 
I like mine 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s really up to you honestly. We have talked about not using it once she is about 6 months old.

I could not imagine not having an Owlet. I had it with my daughter, and I’ll be using it again with this baby. It gives me such peace of mind. We did have a few scares with it, and I’m really glad we had it!

Don’t buy one that is an internet accessed one. People can hack it and try talking to your child it’s creepy. Instead I agree with the other women had to say and buy one the monitors the heart rate and breathing.
