Ok to let 8 week old sleep alone?
So far my baby has slept within a foot of me in his halo bassinet. Recently I have been putting him for naps in his crib alone in his room, to start acclimating him to it.
What I didn’t expect was how much more he likes his crib. Last night I put him down around 10 with company over, went to bed at 11 thinking he’d be up in an hour, and woke up at 4 with him still sleeping.
But, he’s only 8 weeks old. I know they say the risk of SIDS is reduced by room-sharing. Plus I feel nervous being so far from him! On the other hand...the crib looks much more comfy, he almost always wakes up after a night feed since my bedroom floor is creaky and door is loud, and I think I’m less likely to jump at some normal grunts.
What should I do? Can I trust the baby monitor? What about the risk of SIDS?
