I had to have my blood drawn today and I was just curious if it looks like my vein blew or if it’s just nasty looking? I have never had it looks this bad and I have donated blood before pregnancy regularly. It hurts pretty bad and it looks ugly.

This is completely normal. It will be tender. This is caused by a little bit of blood under the skin it is no big deal. If it continues to get worse then you might worry but as long as it stays like that you are fine.

This is very common. I have extremely difficult veins even while pregnant with all the extra blood flow. If the phlebotomist is particularly rough or new I always develop quite the bruise. I also have my blood drawn a lot to monitor medication levels. Next time to reduce any bruising keep pressure on it a bit longer. You can ask them to wrap it if they only want to put a bandaid on it after a few seconds of pressure.

This happens to me all the time, specially if the nurse misses my vein, and has to dig around I usually end up with a pretty sizeable bruise after!

I get bruising sometimes, really depends on how the person did it. I have had people be super gentle and I wouldn’t bruise, but I have had people be a bit too fast and rough and then I’d bruise.

I've had my arm look like this after a blood draw, I have no idea if it was a blown vein or not but it took a little longer to heal and was tender but ended up being fine :)

They probably pierced your vein. Or you didnt keep pressure long enough.
