Cat Proofing?

Question

Anyone have any suggestions on cat proofing a nursery? My mother warned me that my cat would climb in the crib and may smother the baby while sleeping... morbid I know but that’s my mother lol. She may have a point though. If anyone could help I’d appreciate it greatly!!!!

First, see if your cat is even interested in the crib. Most aren’t due to the jumping height. But if they are:
Once your crib is built, lay some cardboard down on the inside and cover it with tin foil.  Both the sound and texture aren’t very appealing to cats. You can also put some double sided tape on the rails to deter the cat from jumping up. 
Check the furniture around the crib too. If the cat can climb from a lower table to the crib move the table away so the cat would have to interact with the kid directly.

Our problem with the cats when our last was born was that they jumped in and out of the crib playing, scratched and destroyed our brand new crib, peed in it, peed on pretty much everything in the nursery.. it was a disaster.  I’d say if your nursery has a door, keep it closed and completely off limits to the cat altogether.

My cats have never gotten in the crib.  They avoid the baby pretty much especially when she cries.  One sleeps underneath the crib or rocking chair sometimes and also likes to sleep on the changing pad. I just change the cover frequently.  As such, we don’t have a need for cat proofing.

My mom said the same thing! We have had the crib built and set up since about 15 weeks ago and just recently have we started leaving the nursery door open all the time. She has not had an interest in getting in the crib which is a relief, but she loves laying under it. She has ruined the underside of beds before but honestly has not touched this one. She loves to just lay on the floor in the middle of the room. We will keep a close eye on her when our baby boy gets here and make adjustments as needed, but so far I don't believe it will be a huge issue. She is also not a big cuddler so that's a plus.

Mine never went in the crib just sniffed it. Make sure to let them get familiar with the new sighted and sounds.
