Did BC cause me to miss my period or am I pregnant

I started birth control for the first time at age 22. I started May 12 and I had been taking it at night. I use condoms or the withdrawal method with my sex partner. My period always comes on time but since I started my birth control it has not come at all. I started my birth control on May 12th and I haven’t missed a day and haven’t had sex since the 12th. My period is now 5 days late. Could I have gotten pregnant right before I started birth control or is it more likely that the hormones in my birth control are causing my period to not come? I’m really nervous and I don’t even have enough money to buy a pregnancy test until next pay period (next week). I have been crying and feeling very down due to other circumstances in life. I am generally an emotional person but I am not sure if my emotions are amplified due to pregnancy. I even experienced cramping, etc. before my regular period was supposed to come. Any advice would be helpful.
