What do you do after a nightmare?

I woke up my boyfriend cuddled and cried.
I was wondering what you guys do to feel even a little bit better after having a nightmare.

I usually cuddle up to my boyfriend and try to calm down. I scroll on my phone until my mind is eased off the dream and I’m ready to drift back asleep with something else on my mind so I won’t drift back in to the nightmare.

My nightmares tend to VERY vivid & I also get really bad sleep paralysis from time to time so they tend to fuck me up lol. Sometimes I’ll wake up & feel really out of it/on edge for a while. I have to splash water on my face to make sure I’m not still dreaming. Then I’ll stay up for like an hour on my phone if my boyfriend is in bed next to me, but if he is gone with his friends then I’ll stay up the rest of the night watching cartoons. There’s times where I’ll wake up almost in tears or even hyperventilating & it’ll wake him up so he’ll hold me & pretty mush “ssshhhh” me to bed like a baby lol.
