Have you ever tested positive for a risk of defects?

Got my results this week from my second trimester maternal serum and it is positive 😞 My first trimester blood work was fine and the ultrasound nuchal measurement was great, but now my doctor says my risk is slightly higher for a defect. She did say not to worry, as most the time the baby is fine and it’s just a false positive. Has this happened to anyone else and they were carrying a healthy baby? I have 3 weeks to wait for my 20 week ultrasound and I’m trying to keep my sanity.

I did a screening test for Down Syndrome with my first pregnancy and I came back as an “elevated risk.” The baseline risk for someone that conceived at my age (31) was 1 in 500 and the screening test came back as a 1 in 61 chance. So obviously that’s an increased risk but it was still a very small chance (my daughter ended up not having DS). While I waited two weeks for the results of the diagnostic test my doctor told me that screening tests have very low thresholds so that it catches everyone that even has a potential risk for whatever is being tested for. The diagnostic test will supposedly tell you a definitive yes or no, although I’ve heard there are many false positives with those as well. Hope this helps!

This recently happened to my friend and baby was totally fine. Those screens can be highly inaccurate. There’s a lot in your favor - first trimester screens and normal NT! They did the NIPT to help corroborate that everything was low risk for my friend which was very helpful.

I feel you on this ! My nuchal ultrasound came back with baby having a thick neck but my nipt blood results came back low risk so I’m the opposite of you right now lol try not an stress it’s hard I go back June 7th for more answers ! Prayers !!
