Anyone pregnant and feeling guilty for their only child not getting enough time to be an only child?

My son will be 2 years 8 months when his sister comes, and I don't feel guilty at all. Almost 3 years is a good run for undevoted attention. Now it's time for him to learn new skills such as sharing more, how not to be the center of attention, helping mommy with the baby, etc. It will be an amazing learning experience for our oldest.

I feel kinda bad that after 2 years of getting all the love, she will have to share it. I'm happy that she will really not remember a time without her sibling though. My mom had my sisters within a year of each other and then they had me 8 years later. My sisters moved out early in life and I felt like an only child. I would've liked to have a sibling closer to my age for sure.

I feel guilty that the second will never be an only child. Our first is the center of our universe (not in a bad way). She gets all of our attention and free time. She had 4 months of me to herself on maternity leave. She has had 2.5 years of individualized attention from me, my husband and her nanny. I am worried that the second will suffer because he will never have that. It makes me feel bad but it’s not like I can change it.

Honestly I feel the opposite. I would feel guilty waiting too long. My siblings and I are all about 10 years apart. I had cousins and everything but I wish I had a sibling close to my age to be really close too. My sisters and I are super close now but I was a kid when they were teenagers/adults. I would feel guilty waiting too long and my baby growing up not having anyone to play with and do things with. Yeah there are friends and cousins but it’s not the same as having a buddy there all the time.

If they are that close in age, they will never know the difference! I have three sisters and the closest to me in age was born just shy of two years after me, and I have no memory of a time without her in my life, and I wouldn’t change it for the world. You might remember the first one being your only child, but the babies certainly won’t remember it, especially not enough to be resentful about it.

My daughter will be 14 months but no. She is still going to be my only girl and she is so excited about the baby and will pass out for naps with her head on my tummy and her hands on it. She LOVES her upcoming baby brother. Plus I plan to encourage her to be as involved as she wants.

They will be alright just take the time out for both kids. My 5 year old is an attentions feen. So no matter how u give him still wants more. Just the way it is since his sister been born.

Well mines 5 years old lol. But she will be the only girl so she'll still get her time to shine for sure. Her brother will be the only boy so he'll get his time. Im pretty balanced lol.
