Do I have any options?

I am so livid

So, long story short,

My dog potentially killed my neighbors chicken

The chicken was in my yard, the gate wasn’t latched, and my dog got out and chased the chicken into the neighbors yard and was later in the day found dead.

I replaced the chicken upon my neighbors request because I didn’t want issues.

Despite many people telling me I didn’t owe him anything.

And despite my own conscious, considering he doesn’t have any other chickens (whether they are dead or not I do not know, but I suspect so).

I haven’t seen the chicken until today.

It was out of its coop, free roaming, on my property, with a busted/limping leg, and I was unsure if it had an issue with its vent.

I went to inspect it a little more, but it went back into the neighbors yard.

It has barely even been a week since I’ve given him the chicken..

If I were to find it on my property again, would it be possible for me to just to take it legally?

I’m feeling guilty for even giving it to him at this point
