Advice needed to prepare for birth

Ladies, I have come to know that probably none of my family members may be able to reach Sydney around the time I am due (due to health issues etc.). Considering my hubby and myself will need to prep for everything, I wish to start planning. Please advise how it works in Australia? I am under RPA sydney and am going public and am still in the mid-wife waiting list. Please advise on what can I do to have a 24 hr support post birth and learn how to take care of a lil baby? I have no clue and am nervous!
