Why no bumpers in crib?

What are the reasons?
Update: how can they suffocate though?

Baby can roll up against them and suffocate. They do make mesh ones but im not sure how safe those are either

Why it can suffocate:
Newborn babies don't have much control over their neck muscles, if their head gets turned too close the bumper it could hinder baby's breathing and potentially suffocate.
Bumpers can be cute and "feel" safe but they really do nothing useful for the baby and just hinder overall crib air circulation. I urge you to look into safety tips in order to prevent SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and take those tips very seriously; crib bumpers are not worth a child's life.

We got the mesh ones because they can breath if the get stuck up next to the side.... and because she was sticking her hands and feet out... we were afraid she’d turn the wrong way and break something.... she would scream when her limbs got stuck outside the crib

They can cause suffocation. We used a mesh one with our daughter. I think she was like 6 or 7 months? We also had a video and movement monitor so if anything happened we would know immediately.

Regular bumpers are to stop baby rolling over and smacking their head or limbs against the crib, but like someone else said, babies have been known to suffocate against them. The mesh ones are less of a “bumper” because there’s no padding and more of a way to TRY to prevent babies from sticking their arms and legs through the crib slats

After they are a year old you can use the bumpers. Until then it’s a suffocation risk.
