Therapy Dog for child

What are your thoughts for my 8 month old to have a therapy dog and have him registered? We just bought a 7wk old French bulldog his parents were very small so he should be as well. We wanted a puppy for our daughter to grow up with for when she has her surgeries or when shes sick her immunity isn't grand. The papers are in our daughter's name as her pup (with us co signing it) just got to thinking this would be great for her but didn't wanna sound dumb for suggesting a therapy companion for her.
