Are you raising your kids differently than you were?

How conservative was your home growing up?

I wasn’t allowed to watch Sesame Street, spongebob... ya know because there’s DEFF gay people in that . I wasn’t allowed to listen to music that even had the word “heck” in it . I wasn’t allowed to know the correct names of body parts- because heaven knows what I’d do with that information. While all of this was being told to me I constantly got told about “evil thoughts” , “hellfire”, and my favorite “would Jesus love you if you did that?” . But all of this at sheltering me yet they still lied to me and told me all about Santa, Easter bunny, and the tooth fairy. (Btw brownie points if you can figure out what Christian denomination my grandfather church was!)

So here is what I’m doing :

Gay people exists . I won’t let my children watch straight sex or gay sex on television or anything too provocative but I don’t see the harm in innocent cartoons .

Music is also everywhere . I plan on my kids knowing what is and what is not appropriate to say.

MY BIGGEST ONE: I plan on teaching my kids the CORRECT name of body parts from the START! Because if they end up with a UTI like I did at the age of 7- doctors don’t understand “my purse hurts” 🤦🏻‍♀️

I think my parents and grandparents did what they thought was right - and we are all very close now ... but I was the first and the experiment child .

Anyone else doing things differently?
