Absorbency change?
FTM here. My son is 7 weeks old, and we have been cloth diapering the past 5 weeks. The first few weeks went great, but the past week, he has been soaking through the diapers. I’m not sure if his urine output is greater and I need to change him more often, or if I’m losing absorbency in the diapers due to an improper wash/care routine. My first thought was to strip the inserts, but the information I was reading on Fluff University made it sound like you shouldn’t need to strip diapers regularly if you have a proper wash routine.
We use Alva Baby OS Pocket diapers purchased new, with standard microfiber inserts. I do one load of 10-15 diapers per day, but we have enough diapers to rotate so that each diaper only gets washed every other day. When I take the diaper off, I unsnap it, remove the insert, and put it in an UBBI pail until wash time. I know it’s unnecessary, but I’ve also been spraying off poopy diapers. When it’s time to wash, I soak them for 45 minutes in cold water, then run the washer through a heavy cycle with no detergent. I then immediately run the washer again on another heavy cycle, cold water, with Tide Free & Clear (line 1). I hang dry in the laundry room.
