Car Seat Question!

Normally, in the case of only having one child, all of my family and friends have installed their car seats behind the passenger seat. My husband thinks we would be better off having it behind my driver seat as I would naturally protect that side of the car should anything happen BUT everything I’ve read states that it should be installed in the centre as it is 40-something percent safer there. What do I do?? What have you done??
