When to see a doctor?

So I know they say 6 months to a year before talking to a doctor about fertility. We haven’t been trying that long, but my first didn’t take long at all. I then had an IUD for over 2 years and I’m paranoid that it is affecting my fertility. Should I still give it 6 months?

I would say ges give it 1 year unless there is some obvious sign of something being wrong. Or if you are 35+ only give it 6 months.
Some examples of things you could be noticing that I would say to go sooner would be:
• short luteal phases
• very long or irregular cycles. Think 60+ days not 30 or whatever. 
• multiple cycles without ovulation
• consistently spotting a day or more before a period
• having other known issues that could affect fertility like hypothyroidism.
Most couples without any fertility issues will get pregnant within a year. So it would be a shame to go spend tons of time and money to have uncomfortable or even downright painful testing done when all you needed was another month or two of trying on your own, ya know? Once you have been TTC for a year it starts to become more likely that there is a problem and it becomes relatively less likely you'll get pregnant trying on your own without intervention. So at that point maybe it is worth the time, money and discomfort. That being said depending on where you live and such there can be a fairly long wait to see an RE so I don't see the harm in scheduling a new patient appointment for when you hit a year of trying. So like maybe in 3 months you will be at a year so you call now and schedule an appointment for 3+ months from now. Then if you do get pregnant naturally before the appointment you can cancel it and if you don't you have an appointment already.

I would wait a year. My doctor said it takes the average woman up to a year to conceive and if it hasn’t happened by then to go see her.
