39 Week Elective Induction - Advice

Hey everyone, so I’m looking for positive 39 week elective induction stories/experiences. Anything you can share is appreciated!!

A little background: this has been a very tough pregnancy (not that it isn’t difficult as is), but I have been sick the entire time and have been having contractions for the last 4 weeks or so. Over the last 2 weeks they have gotten to be pretty painful, but still not consistent enough to go to L&D. I’m a FTM and very healthy, baby is very healthy as well. He is currently head down and my doctor felt his head when she checked me at this weeks appointment, but did say he’s still somewhat high. I have been 1cm dilated for 3 weeks now and have tried everything to continue to progress (I.e. walking my dogs a couple miles a day, squats/lunges, sex, birthing ball a lot, evening primrose oil, etc.), but no luck progressing. I’m just in pain, can’t get comfortable enough to get good sleep, etc.

My doctor offered induction at 39 weeks if we want and went over the risks with us. I just feel so ready physically and mentally, and baby is full term and healthy so I really want to opt to be induced, at least try and see how things go if my body will start doing things in its own. I’m getting push back from some friends and both my mother and mother in law saying not to be impatient and to let him come on his own, almost like they’re trying to make me feel guilty. But they offer elective inductions for a reason and there’s obviously risks with every form of delivery. I feel that they wouldn’t offer it if it wasn’t okay. I just don’t want to feel guilty for choosing this form of induction and would love to hear that there are other women out there who have chosen this route as well ☺️
