Discharge or Fluid?

How can you tell if you’re losing amniotic fluid or just have a lot of discharge? Is there a clear, distinct difference?

Girl. I had a feeling I was leaking fluid for the last 2 weeks of my pregnancy and had them check TWICE in L&D with the test strips. Both came back negative. When I went to have my son I didn’t have a drop left. I had lost it so slowly over time. They told me I should have asked for an ultrasound to monitor fluid levels. 🙄🙄 like I was supposed to know that was a thing.

When my water broke with my son I was getting out of bed to go pee. I went to the bathroom peed and when I was finished it kept going. I put a pad pn and went to lay back down. I waited a few min and got back up and more gushed out so I knew it was my water. Hospital confirmed when I got there and I never got contracts so I had to be induced. 
If you think it's your water to go L&D they will check
