Black dress to a wedding?

So my boyfriend's friend is getting married in about 2 weeks and I have 3 different dresses in my closet but I saw a black dress that was absolutely perfect for the wedding. But I have heard that black at a wedding is bad luck and almost as rude as a guest wearing a white dress. I would be wearing accentuating jewelery to liven it up but I didn't know if it was acceptable or not!

Also....if black is a bad idea, I have a dark blue/navy dress that is lacey looking, not too short or tight, and has sleeves that come to about the elbow. Can I wear that with some flesh colored heels and jewelery?

LBD is almost always appropriate. I have never heard of black being bad luck at a wedding.

I wore a black dress to the last 2 weddings I attended. So did nearly half the guests. I just wouldn't wear white or cream, ivory etc.

I've never heard the black thing before... Pretty sure I've worn black to nearly every wedding I've been to. The two I didn't wear black to were day ceremonies

I've never heard that. I had a black and white wedding and i wore a black dress to my husbands brothers wedding.

I actually wore black to my sister's wedding (because it was a nice dress), and I know penny of other people who did too because it was semi-formal. When I got married,  I could not have cared less what people had on. ..didn't even notice until I saw pictures . Some of my niece's gaff on black,  and I still don't care. Overall,  I think you should wear what you like.

I don't get the black is bad at a wedding. Most men wear black dress pants. Also they sell black bridesmaids dresses and they are a popular color. I think it's an outdated "rule" just like not wearing open shoes after Labor Day. I have worn black to weddings and no one had an issue with it. If you are that torn send the bride a message and ask her if she cares.
