I'm in the process of switching care providers and am seriously considering it. I just feel like I'll be in a better headspace/will be better equipped to manage the pain (before or without drugs depending on the circumstances) in the comfort and peace of my own home, without bans on eating/drinking and other standard procedures that I feel take the human element out of childbirth. I also have panic disorder and in the event I have an attack I'll be much better off at home than in a hospital. Plus it's WAY less expensive. Also considering a water birth at a birthing center though.

I am! I had a previous one also ans it was great! Nothing like just walking over to your bed and laying with your baby. Its surreal!

I know a lot of people have successful home births but you need to be ready to get to a hospital fast if things go wrong. I was a low risk pregnancy and totally fine until my labor started. I didn't progress, the baby tried to take the umbilical cord out with her in her hand and she had pooped and then I hemorrhaged. If I had been at home both of us could have died. It all turned out okay thanks to the great doctors and nurses at my hospital. I personally would never do a home birth. It's just not worth the risk. If you are concerned about the hospital not following your wishes bring someone with you to be your advocate and help you fight for how you want things to go.
