I need answers

I started having brown mucus looking discharge 7 days before my period and that lasted for 4days, also I had really bad sharp pain in the middle of my back just in one spot. My question is should i assume this is my period or should I get tested. This has never happened to me. Usually my periods are about 6-7 days and red to dark red with blood clot and heavy cycles with lots of cramps. I mean like taking Tylenol every 4hours for the first 2 days. Story of my life
