How would you know if your baby pooped in the womb before your water broke?

I’m 33 weeks & my friend just gave birth & they had no idea that her son pooped until they broke her water , cant that be fatal??? What if he had pooped weeks prior???? I’m paranoid & also curious as to how that works. What if your baby pooped several weeks before you went into labor?

They usually don’t do it until they’re under stress from labor.  I’ve never heard of them doing it weeks ahead of time.

You can’t tell before, unfortunately. It happened to my daughter, I was four days overdue. We don’t know when she passed the meconium, and didn’t know until they broke my water while I was in labor. They had my doctors and the on call pediatricians in the room when she was born. She was perfectly fine, however, it does raise concern.
