How do you know if you're leaking amniotic fluid?

I had this scare with my first child, and it was just discharge. But if you were to be leaking how would you know?! They say it will have a unique smell, but how will I know if that's the smell and not just discharge? The other day I was just sitting on the couch and I moved or something and I felt this gush come out. It wasnt pee, I would know if I peed I think lol. And I'm having more wetness down there now which I can't tell if it's just sweat/discharge or what. I'm 25 weeks, so maybe my discharge has just increased? If I remember right it did increase with my first child the further I got.
