So my SIL is giving me her medela breast pump because she decided to switch to formula. She was talking about getting rid of her pump (only used it a handful of times) and I said I would take it because I am currently breastfeeding and my breast pump is a ameda which sucks.... gets the job done but I want something better but it's the only brand pump my insurance covers.

Anyways,

can I use the medela second hand? Is that a health concern? If I can what parts do I need to clean exactly? (I dont know if this pump is different than mine)

My SIL and her baby caught thrush a few weeks ago so if its not a concern to use a secondhand pump is there a certain chemical I should use to make sure it's really cleaned before using it?

Last is the medela in style pump an open or closed system?
