We are wanting to name our girl Lyla pronounced ( Lie-la ) but my cousin has a 14 year old step daughter named Layla. We do see them on holidays and family events. My name is Shayla and wanted to kind of incorporate my name in our daughters.

Being a Laila myself, I have been called Lyla so many times. 😂 That being said yes they’re close, but I don’t think you should let that stop you from naming your daughter Lyla.
