Ultrasound not till 12 weeks?

Question

Doctor won’t do ultrasound till I’m 12 weeks because they said there’s no heartbeat and it’s too small right now but I’m 8 weeks. Came in for first appointment and they told me this. Is this normal?

Well, there's definitely a heart beat (I heard & saw hb at 6w pregnant). But it is pretty typical not to get any u/s before 12 (or 20) weeks, & of course you can tell a lot more about the fetus at 12+ weeks.

Some doctors will wait until 12weeks to do the first ultrasound. It all depends on the doctors. The heartbeat shows up at 6weeks or so, but I know my last two kids they said we wouldn’t be able to hear it but able to see it

I would not be okay with that. Also not sure where you live but in Canada we also have IPS screening which is time sensitive. It needs to be done by 12 weeks I believe for step 1 so if you were wanting that one.

My midwives don't do anything till 20 weeks. They listen at 10 weeks for the heartbeat with a doppler.

they typically do that due to risk of miscarriages. that’s why they wait around that time. well, which is what they have me doing. found out i was pregnant june 4th and don’t get an ultrasound till july 10th!

First baby we got ultrasound at 6 weeks. Saw heartbeat flicker and heard it. Second baby we just did Ultrasound at 8 wks. Saw and heard heart beat. Depends on the Dr. I have a different ob this time around. And they didn't do the first ultrasound until 8 weeks.
