Soft Markers for Down Syndrome

Amber

First let me preface this by saying I just turned 29 and this is my 2nd pregnancy. Our first one ended in a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks in the fall.

At our anatomy scan Tuesday (18 weeks, 4 days) 3 soft markers were found that are associated with DS. They were Echogenic intracardiac focus (EIF), bilateral choroid plexus cyst (CPC), and bilateral renal pyelectasis. Our little boy was actually measuring a week ahead with no other abnormalities found. We had the sequential screening blood test performed at 12 weeks as well as the ultrasound to measure the NT both of which were normal. My doctor doesn’t seem very concerned but she is sending me to MFM for a level 2 ultrasound on Monday just to be sure. She says she sees these markers all the time especially in little boys and actually called them “benign, normal findings”. I am extremely worried and would love to hear anyone’s experiences.
