Does perineal massage actually help with avoiding tearing during childbirth???4

I'm 30 weeks and looking into ways to avoid severe tearing when it's my turn to give birth. This is my second child but likely to be my first vaginal birth. I never had to prepare with my last baby because i had a planned c-section. Now i want to be ready as I can with enough information. Anyone actually do the massage? If so did it help???

Thank y'all! I'm still gonna have to talk to my doctor but it's the first time i heard about it (babycenter). As any other woman, I'm just trying to avoid tearing as much as possible. I know for a fact my doctor only allows natural tearing and she's helped a lot of women not tear as much including my friends. Also heard we should start with those massages by 34 weeks
